Cultural Competency Webcast

N.C. BCCCP sponsored a series of cultural competency webcasts in 2009 for BCCCP/WISEWOMAN providers and other healthcare professionals. These webcasts focused on providing an understanding of the following, within three special population groups – American Indians, Latinos, and African Americans:

  • beliefs, values, traditions and practices of a culture;
  • culturally defined, health-related needs of individuals, families and communities;
  • culturally-based belief systems of the etiology of illness and disease and those related to health and healing; and
  • attitudes toward seeking help from health care providers.

These three population groups continue to experience health disparities surrounding breast and cervical cancer and cardiovascular disease, as well as other health issues.

The Question and Answer email, phone and fax numbers provided in the webcast were active only during the actual event and are no longer available. For questions, contact the individual presenters through the information provided at the conclusion of each webcast or call 919-707-5300.

Evaluations and certificates of participation will no longer be provided.
